SENIOR SKIP DAY

By Sydney Towers

Once every school year, the Seton LaSalle seniors skip a day of school. This year, Senior Skip day happened on Friday October 3rd, 2023.  Senior Skip Day has been going on for a while not just here, but at other schools as well.

The majority of the senior class was absent; however, there are always a few students that still come to school. This year’s skip day had the most absences of all the previous years with a total of approximately 40 seniors not at school.

Senior Mila O’Brion, the Student Council President, organized and spread the word about Senior Skip Day.  When asked how she got so many students not to come to school, O’Brion said, “We wanted to have a day where there were no fall or winter sports.  So we chose Friday to turn our three day week into a two day week and three day weekend.  Then our Rebel Barstool made a post to spread the word.”

Rebel Barstool is an Instagram account run by a couple seniors.  It is another way to spread any type of school news that the students may need to know.

Senior Skip Day is fun for the students, but what about the teachers?  Mrs. D said, “ I like the idea of an organized group (seniors) collaborating together to have a "skip" day.  Everyone needs a mental health day, but it would be nice to see a collective of people going to breakfast, meeting up for a movie, or doing community service together. Taking the initiative to organize time away from school could also be a way for students to give back to their community.”

The Senior Skip Day tradition will hopefully continue for many years.  As students reach their last year of high school, it’s enjoyable to do things like this with your friends.

The seniors were sent a Google Form asking how they spent their time during Senior Skip Day.  Based off the people who answered, these were the results:
