GIRLS' VOLLEYBALL RECAP

By Ivy Pettigrew

With all the trials and tribulations the girls’ volleyball team faced this year with new coaches, a young team, injuries, sickness, and new rotations, they fought hard this season. JV,  led by Coach Christian Marini, went 11-7 and Varsity went 6-13 with Coach Kaleb Krebs. The girls are hoping to use this past season as a learning experience to help them grow in the seasons to come.
Freshman Gigi Lonergan described plans for the team to do more strength and agility training this off-season to help set them up for success. Lonergan added, “I also think working on teamwork and attitude on the court will help us next season.”
Sophomore Skye Jones said, “the more our relationships grow, the better our season will be.” Jones stated that the team has a lot of talent coming back next season despite the loss of six seniors.
As for the rising seniors, they plan to embrace their position of leadership. Junior Lauren Tarrant expressed that she wanted “to make everyone on the team feel appreciated” and to help grow their bond on and off the court.
Junior Anna Meade conveyed, “I want the underclassmen to feel able to come speak with me about anything and I want to bring JV and Varsity closer together.”
Seniors Ella Kicinski, Sabrina George, Alayna Malloy, Ivy Pettigrew, Sam Stolar, and Kat Weldon all left a positive impact on their teammates. Senior George explained, “Although we didn’t do as well as we hoped, I believe I showed the underclassmen how to be a leader on the court, especially when we aren’t doing well.”
Senior Malloy added, “I think I showed them how to stick together no matter the hardships this season.”
Three varsity girls were named All-Section: senior captain Sabrina George (outside hitter) was named First Team; senior captain Ella Kicinski (libero) was named Second Team; senior Sam Stolar (middle hitter) was named Third Team. Senior Kicinski shared that “being named All-Section was something that I worked really hard for the last four seasons and I am so thankful for the whole team for helping me accomplish my goal!”
