SOFTBALL PREVIEW

By Delaney Baker

Seton Lasalle Softball is coming in swinging. The girls are getting ready for their Spring 2024 season. The team is coached by Cindy Beauregard, class of 1991, ‘91 and she's coming up on her tenth year of coaching. This season the team has one senior, Kiara Cerminara, five juniors, two sophomores, and nine freshmen.
Juniors Kamyia Morris and Gianna Ferrieri are the captains this season. It will be a big team this year, which is different because, in previous years, the team only had enough players for a starting varsity team. This year they were able to add a JV team
Last season was rough for the team. Their record was overall 5-10 and 4-5 in section. Their section includes Brownsville, Keystone Oaks, Waynesburg, South Park, and McGuffey. This year they’re looking for a section title to bounce back from last year.
Coach Beauregard stated, “I have high hopes for the girls this year, we have a strong team and I think we will be able to compete in section and even into playoffs.”
To try and get to this accomplishment, the team has many off-season practices. During the fall, they entered tournaments to see the players. Throughout the winters they worked out in the weight room and held simple practices in the gym.
The workouts would consist of basic agility. The girls did ladders to work on footwork, running to build stamina, lifting to get stronger, and other workouts that helped them with basic things they would use in games.
Senior Captain Kamyia Morris notedsays, “The workouts are a good asset to have in the winter to get everyone in shape for the season and allow us to start bonding with the new girls so we can play better together.”
