DRESS DOWN DAYS

Dress Down Days give students and teachers a way to express themselves. During Spirit Week, students get the whole week to dress in their own clothes. Although they get to dress how they choose, they also have to follow a theme for the day.
Senior Amira Arrington said, “Dress Down Days are fun, especially having themes, but they can also be stressful figuring out what to wear.”
“I prefer not to have dress down days because it takes away from the real reason of being at Catholic school," said senior O’Malley Daly.
The themes for Spirit Week 2023 were Comfy/Pajama Day on 9/11, Holiday Day on 9/12, Barbie Day on 9/13, Celebrity/Character Day on 9/14, and Class Colors Day on 9/15. When there are Dress Down Days not involved with Spirit Week, most of the time students have to donate something in order to dress down.
Faculty even can choose to participate in these dress down days, which makes them enjoy dressing down as well. Mrs. Little dressed up in a onesie as Winnie The Pooh, which was very memorable. Mrs. Little said, “Pooh bear always showed kindness, and he likes to join in and help out. I think that’s a good role model at any age. It brought me a lot of happiness to try and make people smile that day too. Who doesn’t love a dress down day?”
Dress Down Days are a positive influence on students and give them a break from wearing uniforms everyday. Yet, there are pros and cons to being able to dress down.
Some cons are that you have to decide what to wear, instead of having your outfit picked out already everyday. This may make you have to wake up earlier just to figure out what you’re wearing.
“I wish I would have got the chance to get used to school uniforms as a new transfer student before having Dress Down Days,” said sophomore Riley Woods.
Some pros are that dressing down gives students a chance to be comfortable throughout the day. Another pro is that students are able to give to the less fortunate on regular dress down days. Also, students get to have fun dressing up when there is a theme.
Students O’Malley Daly, Geary Smith, Eli Smith, Nick Cherry, Will Martin, and Carson Barone all dressed up as Nelly. “Dressing up as Nelly during Homecoming Week was very fun. It was a funny thing to do matching with my classmates,” revealed sophomore Will Martin.
Dress Down Days are a positive experience for students to give them a change from their normal routine. Overall, the majority of students enjoy wearing their own clothes.
