STUDENT COUNCIL

By Makayla Corson

The Student Council is one of Seton LaSalle’s many student organizations. Students from all grade levels can join the Student Council. They help organize school events such as pep rallies and Dress Down Days in Spirit Week during Homecoming Week.
Senior James Farnan said he likes being on the Student Council because “It is fun” and he “enjoys having a say in what happens here.” Farnan appreciates planning events and sharing ideas.
Farnan recommended that any interested student should join the Student Council. Farnan explained, “I'd run, even if you don't win. Many people don't do it because they're scared of either giving a speech or afraid of losing, but, if you win, it is definitely worth it and even if you don't, it's still good practice to have to give a speech.”
Miss Herbertson has been the faculty sponsor of the Student Council for four years. Miss Herbertson said, “It's something I like to do because I think it's important to give the students a voice in the school as much as possible. I like to be in the know and I think that my skill set and interests are perfect for organizing fun activities with the students.” Ironically, she also added that she was never part of the Student Council as a high school student.
For Miss Herbertson, some of the best moments she remembers involve watching all of the students’ hard work pay off. By this, she means successful pep rallies and stellar variety shows. She says they work together to build a community, confidence, and try to make the school an overall better place.
